5+2 talks will take place, sides confirmed

Chisinau obtained confirmation from all the sides that they will take part in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format set to take place in Vienna on June 5-6. The announcement was made in a news conference held jointly by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov and the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, Ambassador Radojko Bogojević, IPN reports.

“This round was to take place in April, but the Transnistrian side refused to participate in it. The agenda will be agreed by the OSCE Chairmanship. It is evident that the agenda represent a continuation of the discussions we had earlier. We want discussions to be held on the Third Basket, which concerns the political and security problems, but the Transnistrian side and Russia say the time is now not opportune to address it,” said Eugen Carpov.

Radojko Bogojević stated that he will speak to all the participants in the 5+2 format so as to have a constructive discussion in the next round. “After the round of talks, we will have a conference in Germany, where we will continue the discussions in the 5+2 format,” said the Ambassador.

He considers that the Transnistrian problem should be isolated from the developments in Ukraine. He added he will call on the participants in the settlement process to focus strictly on the Transnistrian issue.
