52 students receive merit scholarships

485 students from 21 higher-education institutions in Moldova participated at the Merit Scholarships 2007 contest. This year’s edition, the 12th, was organised under the auspices of the Council of Rectors with the financial support of Soros Foundation – Moldova, “Moldova Agroindbank” (MAIB) and “Orange Moldova”. According to a press release from the Educational Advising Centre (EAC), as a result of the evaluation of the submitted applications and essays on the topic “How do you see academic mobility?” the Merit Scholarships were won by 52 students from 7 universities from Moldova. Of them, five received the first degree Scholarships worth MDL 8 thousand, 12 – II degree Scholarships of MDL 5 thousand, and 35 students – III degree Scholarships of MDL 3000 each. The Awarding Ceremony will take place on May 22, 18.30, at the National Theatre “Mihai Eminescu”. The Merit Scholarships Programme was launched in 1996 at the initiative of Soros Foundation Moldova in order to encourage the academic, scientific and extracurricular achievements of the Moldovan students. Starting 2001, the initiative is supported by “Moldova Agroindbank” and from 2004 – by Voxtel. Since 2003, the contest has been organised by EAC. During those 12 annual editions of the contest, more than 830 students benefited from Merit Scholarships and the Awarding Ceremony became a remarkable event in the academic life of Moldova.
