€50m to come to Moldova by end October
The Moldovans could travel visa-free to the European Union in 18 months if the Government of Moldova fulfills all the commitments made to the foreign partners, Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca reiterated in a news conference held to mark one year of work, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the third informal meeting of the Group for the European Action of Moldova on September 30, it was announced that the first tranche of €50 million of the €90 million approved by the European Commission will be disbursed by the end of October. The money will be used to cover the budget deficit and for economic development, Iurie Leanca said.
Two missions of the European Commission visited Moldova in September. They assessed the steps taken by the Moldovan authorities to implement reforms in four areas. The delegations compiled a report that will be used by the European Commission to draw up a plan of action. After it is implemented, Moldova could enter the so-called operational phase. At the end of October, Moldova will be visited by a delegation of the European Commission that will make recommendations, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Iurie Leanca also said that early this month Moldova will receive a set of recommendations from the European Commission for opening the talks on the creation of the free trade agreement. He stressed that Moldova counts on the support of the Hungarian and Polish presidency of the EU in this respect.
