Another 50,310 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were delivered to the Republic of Moldova through COVAX on May 21. In total, 100,620 doses were stored at the National Public Health Agency and half of them will be distributed to national vaccination centers next week.
Contacted by IPN for details, Ninel Revenco, coordinator of the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign, said that according to practice, half of the doses are distributed, while the other half is stored for administering the second dose.
As to the possibility of choosing the type of vaccine, Ninel Revenco said that this is not envisioned. All the vaccines are safe. If someone insists on a particular type of vaccine, they can ask if this is available at the vaccination center or not.
The immunization campaign in Moldova was kicked off on March 2 and 264,000 persons have been vaccinated so far. The general population, which can be vaccinated within the third stage launched on May 18, can make an appointment for vaccination online through www.vaccinare.gov.md.
According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the deliveries through COVAX will continue on May 24, when 45,600 doses of Astra Zeneca vaccine will be shipped to Chisinau.
