50 Czech books donated to National Library

The National Library received 50 books from the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Chisinau as a present. The donation represents the books that were exhibited at the 24th International Book Fair, IPN reports.

Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Moldova Jaromír Kvapil said the donation of the books exhibited at the fair became already a tradition, as it is made for the third year in a row, and is supported by the Czech minister of culture. This donation of books is very important because we come closer not only politically and economically, but also culturally. The books contain belletristic and historical writings. A part of the books are in the Czech language, while the others are in English. “We hope that this literature will be read and used by the visitors of the Library and this will allow us to come closer even more,” stated the diplomat.

National Library director Elena Pintilei said the 50 books are intended both for the general public and for researchers and translators of the Czech language. “It is a model of cooperation between peoples. The mission of the National Library, which is a member of the Conference of European National Librarians, is to promote the motto of the European Union “Unity through Diversity”,” stated Elena Pintilei.

“We live a time of multiculturalism and reciprocal dialogue and it is normal to have greater access to other cultures,” said the president of the Writers Union Arcadie Suceveanu,

The collection of the National Library contains about 3 million books. The Library has over 7,500 registered users. It recorded about 106,000 visits at its head office and approximately 500,000 virtual visits.
