49% of the Moldovans would not take part in the protests against the government staged by the Communist Party (PCRM) in their settlements, shows a Sociopolitical Barometer by the Marketing and Polling Institutive IMAS-INC Chisinau, which was commissioned by IPN News Agency. 26% of the respondents said they will support these protests, but will not take part in them, while 13% said they will support them and will take part in them. 12% didn’t have an answer.
According to the results of the poll, which were presented in a news conference, 54% of those surveyed heard that the PCRM aims to organize protests, called the ‘velvet revolution’. 40% said they haven’t heard about them, while 6% didn’t answer the question. 69% of those polled consider that these actions may lead to violence and disorder, as on April 7, 2009, while 71.4% said they don’t know about the ‘velvet revolution’.
50% of the Moldovans consider that the future leader of the PCRM should have more democratic views than the current leader Vladimir Voronin, while 46% believe that Vladimir Voronin should remain in the PCRM.
Asked to what extent the PCRM contributes to the country’s welfare, 35% of the respondents said ‘to a small extent’, 32% said ‘to a great extent’, 7% said ‘to a very great extent’, while 16% said ‘not at all’. 9% do not know or didn’t give an answer.
As to the image of the PCRM, 29% of those polled said the PCRM has many politicians with prospects, 33% consider the PCRM means Vladimir Voronin, 25% believe that the PCRM witnesses conflicts between the important members of the party, while 15% consider that the PCRM will split in the near future.
The survey was carried out between October 19 and November 11. It covered a sample of 1,126 people from 76 settlements. It contains four chapters, including “Perceptions about the parliamentary opposition – the PCRM”. The margin of sampling error is 3%.
