471 mayors elected in runoff

471 mayors were elected after the local general runoff held on June 17, while in other 420 settlements they had been elected in the first round held on June 3. According to the Central Election Commission, of those 471 mayors elected in the runoff, 105 are communist candidates, and together with those 223 elected on June 3, their total number amounts to 328. According to CEC, “Moldova Noastra” Alliance obtained 61 mandates in the first ballot, and 94 – in the second, so that the number of mayors on behalf of MNA reached 155. The next come the Democrat Party, which obtained 78 mandates of mayors in the both ballots, the Christian Democrat People’s Party – 62, the Social Democracy Party – 25. The Social Liberal Party and the Republican People’s Party obtained less than 20 mayor offices – 19 mandates each, Social Democrat Party – 17, Centrist Union of Moldova – 14, Liberal Party – 12. Another 6 parties obtained less than 10 mandates each. The independent candidates obtained 135 mandates. After the local general elections of 2003, the Party of Communists obtained 368 mayor offices, the Social-Liberal Electoral Bloc “Moldova Noastra” – 191, DP – 73, Electoral Bloc SDP-SLP – 44, etc. The independent candidates obtained 157 mandates then.
