As many as 46 political parties and social-political organizations are formally allowed by the Central Electoral Commission to field candidates in the snap elections to be held on October 20 in four single-member constituencies.
According to CEC Secretary Maxim Lebedinschi, the list was provided by the Public Services Agency, which is in charge of monitoring the active status of parties.
Maxim Lebedinschi said that in some cases leaders of parties either stepped down or died, but they are still listed as leaders. “Unfortunately, the only thing that the Commission can do in this case is to notify the Ministry of Justice and the Public Services Agency and ask them to remove these inconsistencies.”
Snap elections will be held in constituencies 33, 50, 48 and 17, after Andrei Năstase and Maia Sandu preferred Cabinet portfolios over MP seats, and Viorel Melnic and Vladimir Plahotniuc quit as MPs.
