The Valcinet-Ocnita-Balti-Balti-Ungheni-Chisinau-Cainari railway section is to be renovated. The design and execution of the works will be carried out with a €12 million grant awarded through the European Fund for Sustainable Development - Global Europe, IPN reports.
The Cabinet approved the ratification of the investment grant agreement between Moldova and the European Investment Bank (EIB) "Moldova Solidarity Lanes", signed in Chisinau on September 17.
The 446-kilometer-long railway segment, of which 128 kilometers are in unsatisfactory condition, will be repaired, including from loans previously allocated by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, which have each provided €41.2 million, and from the additional grant of €19.59 million from the European Commission.
The work involves replacing sleepers, rails and ballast on critical sections of rail infrastructure. According to the agreement, the works will have a positive impact on citizens and business.
