Dozens of public order violations were documented on the first day of 2025 across the country. At the same time, 41 road accidents and 34 deaths were reported, a summary by the Interior Ministry said.
Three serious road accidents, resulting in four fatalities, occurred on New Year's Eve.
Cristina Ababii, press officer of the General Police Inspectorate, told IPN that on December 31, at around 23:30, a 26-year-old driver from the village of Pîrjota, in the Riscani district, lost control of his car and crashed into a tree on the roadside. It was preliminarily established that the accident was caused by weather conditions. He had a 64-year-old passenger. As a result of the injuries they both died on the spot.
Also on December 31, a 37-year-old driver from the village of Congaz, Comrat rayon, on the way out of Cimislia city, in the direction of Chisinau municipality, preliminarily due to weather conditions, skidded off the road and overturned. It had three passengers: a 37-year-old woman and two minors aged nine and seven. The passengers were transported to hospital, shortly after which the woman died. After the driver underwent a breathalyzer test, the result showed a concentration of 0.00 mg/l, the press officer said.
On January 1, at 04:40, at the exit of the city of Nisporeni, in the direction of the village of Soltanesti, a 30-year-old truck driver overturned and died on the spot. The preliminary cause is believed to be unfavorable weather conditions, IGP communicator Cristina Ababii said.
A total of 3,635 emergency calls were registered in the country, of which in the area of competence of the Interior Ministry - 1257.
