The European Union offered €4.1 million to the Republic of Moldova to improve the animal disease diagnosis, surveillance and control capacities. The grant agreement was signed between the European partners and the National Food Safety Agency, IPN reports.
According to the Agency, the money will be used to increase the national capacity for surveying, controlling and eradicating rabies, avian influenza and African swine fever. The total amount of the budget includes co-financing for three veterinary programs for 2025-2027.
The Agency’s specialists explained that some animal diseases can be transmitted to humans and controls help prevent this risk, and that healthy animals provide safe food products for human consumption. At the same time, an effective animal disease control system allows the Republic of Moldova to export animal products to the EU and other countries.
The investments are part of the European Union's Single Market Program, which benefits the Republic of Moldova and other states.
