A delegation composed of 41 American volunteer doctors arrived in Chisinau to deliver a batch of medical humanitarian aid to the total sum of USD 3 mln, to offer a series of medical trainings and to implement several projects in schools and orphanages. The delegation will stay in Moldova during October 20-28, 2006. The group of volunteers will be divided into teams which will work in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul. Each team will monitor the distribution process of the medical aid, which includes medicaments necessary for treating cancer, insulin, antibiotics, ointment for burns, multivitamins, and other drugs and medical equipment. A specialized team will hold trainings on advanced maintenance of life in obstetrics. The project is a collaboration partnership, settled between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Moldova and three American organizations: American Academy of Family Doctors (AAFM), AAMF Foundation and “Heart to Heart International”. Supplementary, the US Department of State offered support in transporting the humanitarian aid and for providing logistic services. This project is the second experience of the “Doctors with Hearts” partnership in Moldova. The first visit was paid in 2002. Starting from 1993 the “Doctors with hearts” partnership delivered to the medical-sanitary institutions medicaments and necessary medical equipment amounting to USD 125 mln. The Minister of Health and Social protection, Ion Ababii expressed his gratitude to the American people for the humanitarian aid offered to Moldova on Saturday, October 21 at a press conference dedicated to the visit of the American delegation of doctors. According to him, starting from 1992 till present the medical humanitarian aids form USA amount to about USD 177 mln. According to him, the present batch will be distributed to 50 medical institutions from 35 raions of Moldova. The deputy prime-minister, Valerian Cristea mentioned that the humanitarian aids from USA constitute 65% of the total humanitarian aids coming to Moldova.
