40 thousand arbors and shrubs to be planted in weekend in Chisinau

40 thousand arbors and shrubs of different species, among which maples, limes, willows, acacias and ashes will be planted in Chisinau on the occasion of the National Green Day “A Tree for Our Everlasting.” They will replace old and dry trees on the Chisinau streets, in parks or places where landslides occurred. Eliferie Haruta, the chief of the parks running municipal enterprise, stated on Monday, March 30, at the staff meeting of the City Hall that they were buying the seedlings. When asked by Info-Prim Neo, he has said those 400-450 thousand of lei needed for the action will be taken from the enterprise's 2009 budget and from the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry. A seedling costs 20 lei, while a young shrub – up to 10 lei a piece. Although the Chisinau local authorities had earlier stated they would plant a park of 650 oaks within this traditional annual drive, that action has been postponed for the fall. According to Haruta, it's the decision of the country's leadership. He does not rule out it is connected to the elections to take place a day after the 'greening day', but has said “the question is about a big project which needs to be minutely considered, since the new park will be lightened, paved, will have benches and flowers.”
