4 criminal files on Balti events sent to court

The prosecutors sent to court 4 out of the 7 criminal files opened as a result of the events in Balti on August 5. The last file in line, submitted on October 12, concerns Social Democratic Party leader Victor Selin, charged with the violation of the right to freedom of assembly, reports Info-Prim Neo. Balti Municipality Prosecutor Viorel Tureac stated on Friday at a press conference that 5 out of the 7 criminal files were initiated for the violation of the right to freedom of assembly, which is punishable with a fine of up to 400 conventional units, up to 240 hours of unpaid community service, or up to 2 years of jail time. 2 other files were initiated for hooliganism, which is punishable with a fine of up to 700 conventional units, up to 240 hours of unpaid community service, or up to 3 years in jail. The prosecutor mentioned that during current October-November criminal files on the names of 9 other people, charged with involvement in the Balti violence spikes, will be sent to the court. As for the file that concerns Victor Selin, the prosecutor stated that Selin is prohibited from leaving the country without the permission of the prosecutor, and only in exceptional cases. Selin is charged with instigating to disorder. He communicated on one of his social network pages that he would go to Balti and make a shame out of the unionists. He wrote that he will stop the march, declaring the “egg war”. According to the prosecutor, through his message Selin influenced a large number of people to follow him. Besides the criminal files, another 154 administrative proceedings were initiated for violations to the legislation on meetings, for putting up resistance, and intentional blocking of main roads. The fines given rise up to 100,000 lei.
