As many as 394 complaints about the use of torture or ill-treatment had been submitted in the first six months of 2013, up 91 complains compared with the corresponding period last year. After examining the complaints, the prosecutors started 70 criminal cases, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
It was established that the police officers are those who most often used inhuman, humiliating and degrading methods inside police inspectorates – 122 complaints. Torture and other forms of ill-treatment are used to obtain proofs or testimonies by illegal methods.
In 64% of the reported cases, the victims of the abuses sustained mental or physical pain, with visible signs on the body.
