As of January 1, 2019, the children who remained without parental care and those placed in children’s homes will receive higher allowances, IPN reports, quoting the regulations concerning the provision of allowances for looking after such children that were approved by the Cabinet.

The goal is to unify the paid allowances and to improve the financial situation of children placed in family type services.

Under the new provisions, the children placed in tutelage services, the professional parent assistance service and those from family type children’s homes will benefit from a monthly allowance of 1,400 lei. This was raised by 75%, up from  800 lei, 930 lei and, respectively, 750 lei.

A one-time allowance of 3,513 lei was set for children placed in tutelage services, while the allowance for children places in the professional parent assistance service and those from family type children’s homes was raised from 3,000 lei to 3,513 lei.

The children with disabilities aged one to three and the children younger than one will get one time- allowances by 30%, 50% and 100% higher on the placement.

About 40.5 million lei was additionally earmarked in the 2019 state budget for paying the set allowances.
