In 2008, the law enforcement bodies recorded 3,585 notifications on corruption or corruption-related cases. Penal investigations were started following 962 notifications, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office. Most of the notifications were recorded in Chisinau – 815, as 168 penal investigations were started. The anti-corruption prosecutors and the officers of the anti-corruption squad (ECCCC) considered 1,198 notifications and started 316 cases. Out of the total number of penal investigations 247 were sent to courts, as 69 police officers were sentenced, as well as 48 public servants, 5 customs officers, a prosecutor and 174 employees in the other sectors.
