36 projects to be financed by Romania in Moldova

Romania allocated about €1 million through the Department for the Relationship with the Republic of Moldova for 36 projects that will be implemented in Chisinau and in other localities of the country. The projects were selected at a contest and cover five areas: mass media, culture, education, spirituality and civil society. The ceremony to sign the contracts was held at the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova on Monday, IPN reports.

“We wanted each leu that the Romanian state invests in the Republic of Moldova to reach as many people as possible. That’s why we concentrated on large-scale projects that have a major impact in the promotion of the history of Romanian culture, traditions in the Republic of Moldova,” said secretary of state at the Romanian Government’s Department for the Relationship with the Republic of Moldova Adrian Dupu.

The list of selected projects includes the International Book Fair “Bookfest Chisinau” that will return to Moldova on August 31, on the Romanian Language Day. The event will be held under the aegis of the Presidents of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. In autumn, there will be staged the Festival “Romanian Film Days”. Another project is intended for students from rural areas through which about 10,000 socially deprived students will benefit from school supplies at the start of the school year. There are also mass media projects that promote an independent press in the Republic of Moldova.

“We have a common history, the same language, the same culture with the Republic of Moldova. We want to strengthen the tie between the citizens from both sides of the Prut,” said Adrian Dupu, noting that the projects are designed for the citizens from Romania and also from the Republic of Moldova and other states, who want to implement projects in the Republic of Moldova.

Marius Ciprian Toth, charge d’affaires at the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova, said the financial assistance considerably contributes to the improvement of the life of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova”. “Romania supports with a lot of abnegation and confidence the efforts of the Republic of Moldova, including those made to obtain the EU candidate status,” noted Marius Ciprian Toth.

As many as 140 applications for financing have been submitted this year.
