The municipal councilors voted unanimously for allocating 3.5 million lei from the reserve fund of Chisinau municipality for repairing the roof of the apartment building located on Independentei St in Chisinau, where 28 apartments on the attic-like apartment story were destroyed by fire on May 1, IPN reports.

Deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu said that no matter what solutions the commissions investigating the incident propose, the construction should be conserved by restoring the roof and demolishing the external walls of the attic-like apartment story.

For his part, Communist councilor Victor Gurau said the attic-like apartment story should be removed and the roof and the commonly used areas of the building should be repaired. “It is our responsibility to make sure that the people have a roof by winter. It is the optimal variant. The results of the examination are not so important,” he stated.

The councilors also voted for providing assistance to the owners of the apartments from the lower floors, which were flooded when the fire was being extinguished. Thus, a part of the 3.5 million lei will be used for the purpose.
