35,000 persons transferred 2% of income tax to NGOs or religious entities

The State Tax Service said that 34,955 state budget taxpayers chose to transfer 2% of the income tax to noncommercial organizations or religious entities. The number of those who intended to do so is higher than 37,000, but many transactions weren’t validated. In 2022, the donations from income taxes came to almost 10 million lei, IPN reports.

According to the Service, 37,297 tax payers tried to transfer money, but only 34,955 transactions totaling 9,958,023.66 lei were validated. The 2,342 transactions weren’t validated either because the beneficiary of the percentage designation wasn’t put on the updated list of beneficiaries, the individual taxpayers had outstanding amounts not paid as income tax or the beneficiaries were struck off the list by the Public Services Agency.

Under the law, resident private individuals who do not have overdue income taxes can direct 2% of the income tax calculated annually to a national noncommercial organization. The percentage designation can be also made by private individuals who work in the justice sector (lawyer, bailiff, public notary, mediator, legal expert) by filling out the tax returns by the set time limit.
