35 persons arrested during “Euromaidan” in Ukraine

Thirty-five persons were arrested in Ukraine last night for putting up resistance to the police and for hooliganism during the “Euromaidan” in Kiev, Interfax-Ukraine Agency has said. Administrative proceedings were instituted against those arrested, IPN reports.

The activists threw garbage and cudgels at the police. On the other hand, the activists said the police caused bodily injuries to them. The law enforcement bodies launched investigations to examine the over 20 complaints filed by protesters.

The protest was staged last night. According to Ukrainian press reports, before the clashes with the police broke out, there were about 5,000 people in the square in Kiev yesterday evening.

One week before the Vilnius EaP Summit of November 28-29, the Government of Ukraine decided to suspend the preparations for signing the Association Agreement with the EU. Since then, the supporters of the European course have mounted protests. They demand that the administration sign the accord.
