34 public officials temporarily step aside ahead of elections
34 out of 56 public officials running for the parliament have temporarily stepped aside from their posts for the duration of the election campaign, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Central Election Commission.
11 of the officials who suspended their activity in public posts represent the Communist Party, 8 the Democratic Party, 4 the Moldova Noastra Alliance and other 4 the Liberal Party. There are also 2 deputy district heads, one mayor and one deputy mayor representing the Christian Democratic People's Party; one deputy minister from the Party “For Nation and Country”; one mayor from United Molodva Party; and one mayor from the Party of Moldova's Patriots.
CEC Secretary Iurie Ciocan warned that the public officials who will not step aside until October 18 will be removed from the race.
The Constitution and the Election Code requires certain public officials, including Cabinet members and mayors, to temporarily step aside during election campaigns.
