31,000 youths vaccinated against mumps in Chisinau

31,000 Chisinau youths have been vaccinated against mumps within the campaign unleashed on March 3, said the head of the municipal Health Direction, Mihai Moldovanu, on Monday, 17 March, at the City Hall’s sitting, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Moldovanu remarks this figure represents 25% of those 130,000 people programmed to be vaccinated in Chisinau. Yet, the municipality has but 10,000 shots more. According to Moldovanu, the epidemiological situation in the capital maintains at the same level. Last week, new 525 cases were recorded compared to 475 cases, traced out the previous week. The head of the Health Direction forecasts the mumps incidence will drop by the end of March, beginning of April, when 50% of young people will be immunized. Now the City Hall insures the vaccination of the people who have not been repeatedly vaccinated against mumps. The rest of the youths aged below 25, who are part of the risking group, are included into the national vaccination program. Now the Chisinau-based hospitals hold 440 children suffering from mumps.
