30th anniversary: UN worked together with Moldova to help it build a better future

Since it became a member of the United Nations, the Republic of Moldova has been assisted in building a better, peaceful and more sustainable future, with the UN being a close and reliable partner of the country, Simon Springett, UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Moldova, said on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Moldova’s membership in the UN, IPN reports.

Since the establishment of the first United Nations Orifice in the Republic of Moldova in 1992, the UN’s presence has grown dramatically. Today, 25 United Nations entities, with more than 500 staff, are at work across the country.

“Multilateralism remains the cornerstone of peace and shared responsibility and this is especially important at this moment in time when we require diplomacy to steer towards a more peaceful and prosperous future for all. The wellbeing of people around the world and here in Moldova, the health of our plant and the survival of future generations depend on our willingness to come together around to commitment to collective problem solving and action,” said the UN Moldova Resident Coordinator.

According to Simon Springett, the United Nations will continue to support Moldova to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030 and to ensure that no one is left behind, no matter how difficult the challenges might be.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Moldova’s membership in the UN, the UN Moldova Team conducts an information campaign that includes a number include activities that will be staged during the year, including an exhibition of photos with historical monuments and important information about the UN and its activity.

The exhibition will be staged in partnership with the local public authorities in five cities of Moldova, namely: Chisinau, Bălți, Cahul, Comrat and Ungheni. In Chisinau, the exhibition was mounted on May 16 and will be available during five weeks in the most visited parks in the city’s districts.

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights, based on the principles defined in the UN Charter. Moldova became a UN member on March 2, 1992.
