300 fir trees recycled after holidays, used as compost to plant other trees

After the winter holidays, the natural fir trees used by the residents of Chisinau in their homes were collected to be transformed into natural fertilizer, while the sawdust is used as compost to plant other trees, Dumitru Gorelco, deputy director of the Green Spaces Association, told M1 channel.

Last year, more than 800 fir trees were recycled. However, this year the number of fir trees collected is much smaller - only 300 conifers.

The organic compost will be used to plant other trees in the capital city's parks.

This season, “Moldsilva” Forestry Agency put up 46,000 fir, pine and spruce trees for sale. A total of 5,200 fir trees were sold, which is 11 percent of the available stock, IPN reports.
