The Republic of Moldova and the United States of America celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said the U.S. is among the main investors and development partners of the Republic of Moldova, which, during three decades, has offered impressive technical, financial and development support, IPN reports.
“On February 18, 1992, the Republic of Moldova and the U.S. established diplomatic relations, paving this way the way to building dynamic and continuously ascending bilateral relations based on common values, such as attachment to democracy, building of the rule of law and protection of human rights,” the Ministry noted in a press release.
Since the recognition of Moldova’s independence on December 25, 1991 and the opening of the Embassy in Chisinau on March 13, 1992, the U.S. has been a strategic partner that firmly and consistently supports the advancing of the democratic course, strengthening of national institutions, the European course, economic development and modernization of the country as a democratic, sovereign and independent state. “In time, we have appreciated the American side’s consistent position on the comprehensive, peaceful and sustainable settlement of the Transnistrian conflict by observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders,” said the Ministry.
The United States’ frequent messages of support and encouragement for the Republic of Moldova’s efforts to build a democratic and flourishing society confirm the sustainability and high quality of the Moldova – U.S. relations. The Strategic Dialogue is the essential dimension of the Moldova – U.S. relations, which offers broad and quantifiable prospects for cooperation in a wide range of areas.
The valuable assistance offered in time through USAID and other U.S. government agencies, implementation of different assistance projects and programs in priority areas for Moldova’s development and enhancement of the competiveness of the national economy, including agriculture, wine industry, tourism, light industry, creative industries and ICT, support the reforms and contribute to strengthening economic growth for the citizens’ benefit.
The inter-human relations, academic exchanges and internship programs offered during these 30 years to thousands of beneficiaries all over the country, including the valuable contribution of the Peace Corps that has helped develop English teaching skills and has implemented programs in the fields of community and organization, entrepreneurship and education for health since 1993, are a separate dimension.
“On the occasion of the anniversary, we express our firm conviction that the Republic of Moldova and the United States have important potential for continuously developing and extending cooperation in multiple areas of common interest for the benefit of both of the countries and their people, based on close friendly relations that generate mutually advantageous cooperation relations,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
