30 days during which Alexandr Stoianoglo was to be assessed are over

The 30 days during which the commission set up by the Superior Council of Prosecutors was to assess the performance of the suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo have passed. Contacted by IPN for a comment, the head of the Council’s Protocol and Public Relations Service Eugen Roșca said the members of the assessment commission are waiting for the decision of the Chisinau Appeals Court as Alexandr Stoianoglo challenged the commission’s authority. The subsequent actions will be decided depending on the court’s decision.

The commission was constituted on November 23. Under the regulations, within 30 days it was to compile a report where to indicate how it found the suspended prosecutor general’s work: “excellent”, “good” or “unsatisfactory”.

The agenda of the Superior Council of Prosecutors’ December 23 meeting includes an approach made by commission member Lidia Bulgac.

Alexandr Stoianoglo, who was suspended from office in October, is currently under judicial control. The prosecutors completed the investigation into the count of misuse of power. Stoianoglo is also accused of abuse of office, passive corruption, perjury and favoring of an organized criminal group. Recently, he was also charged with privacy breach and disclosure of investigation data. Alexandr Stoianoglo denies any wrongdoing.

The procedure for assessing the performance was initiated following a request made by President Maia Sandu.
