3-year-old survives fall from third floor
A 3-year-old boy suffered severe injuries after falling from the third floor of an apartment building on Milescu Spataru Street in Chisinau.
Dr. Eufalia Negreata of the Chisinau Emergency Service has told Info-Prim Neo that the child was left unattended. The impact with the ground wasn't fatal, but it caused cerebral contusion and spinal injuries for the child. The boy was admitted to the intensive care section at Valentin Ignatenco Hospital.
A 53-year-old woman was found hanged in her apartment on Tighina Street. Circumstantial evidence showed it was suicide.
On Tuesday, the number of cases of brief loss of consciousness in the street due to the hot weather rose almost thrice to 80.
Eufalia Negreata says that the weather has already started to become adverse for chronic patients, affecting especially those suffering from heart disorders. Doctors advise children and the elderly to avoid exposure to the sun between 11:00 and 16:00. Regardless of the age, people should drink at least two liters of water each day and wear light and loose-fitting clothing. People should also protect themselves with sunglasses and headdress.
Doctors recommend not to sunbathe during midday hours and use skin protection sun lotions. On torrid days, it should be avoided to drink coffee, sweet beverages, alcohol, and eat food rich in fats; instead it is recommended to eat fresh fruit and vegetables and drink natural juices.
On Tuesday, the Chisinau Emergency Service recorded 775 calls, including one case of sunstroke, 49 cases of trauma, and 6 brain strokes. A 39-year-old man died of chronic alcoholism.
