3 suspected of fuel theft from Moldova Railway
An engine driver, his helper and one more person risk facing fines up to 20,000 lei or imprisonment terms up to 7 years for misappropriating property, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the press centre of the Interior Ministry, the Transport Police Commissariat was informed that a woman residing in Cimislia raion sells fuel stolen by an engine driver employed at the Moldova’s Railway. Police set up an ambush on the railroad track no. 83 in the region nearby Zloti village, Cimislia.
As a result of this raid, the engine driver and his helper were caught red-handed. They were caught in the act of pumping fuel out of the locomotive’s tank. The fuel was poured in specially adapted containers and was to be sold for 6.50 lei/litre. The woman has been selling the “merchandise” at a price of 8 lei a litre. After searching the woman’s house, police have detected another 80 litres of fuel.
The accomplices managed to steal 400 litres of fuel, pocketing about 2600 lei.
Criminal cases under article 191 of the Penal Code were initiated against the three persons for misappropriating property. According to the legislation, the suspects are liable to fines of up to 20,000 lei or jail terms of up to 7 years.
