3 Romanians smuggle 100,000 false euros to Moldova

The police have caught three Romanians citizens red-handed who introduced into Moldova and have wanted disseminate a huge amount of counterfeited banknotes – 100 thousand euros, Info-Prim Neo reports as informed by the Interior Ministry. The three Romanian citizens have been detained by the police from the Botanica District of Chisinau during the night of 16 March, near the Leuseni customs point. The suspects carried those false money in one their two cars, each banknote having the nominal value of 200 euros. The notes were to be exchanged for 48,000 real euros. The setup succeeded after an under-cover policeman played the role of a buyer of currency. The police have got information that the banknotes come form Bulgaria, where probably they were forged. Such banknotes represent a problem for the cash currency market in many EU countries. The Interior Ministry specifies that, in 2007 in Moldova, they detected and confiscated 97 false banknotes worth 200 euros, qualitatively produced as the ones mentioned in this case. A penal probe has been started on this case on the basis of the Penal Code’s article on “Counterfeiting and spreading false money and securities.” The suspects may be jailed for a term of 10 to 20 years.
