Thirteen Moldovan athletes will compete in the 29th World Universiade, which takes place in China’s Taipei, between 18-31 August, IPN reports.
Serghei Marghiev, Andrian Mardare and Dimitriana Surdu will take part in the athletics contests. Dan Olaru and Alexandru Marca will test their skills in archery. Stepan Dimitrov and Vadim Dimitrov will fight in the taekwondo tournament. Sergiu Cechir, Ion Terna and Ecaterina Cilcic will show their muscles in weightlifting, while Denis Vieru, Norin Tatarescu and Dorin Gotonoaga will compete in the judo tournament.
During the previous Universiade, two years ago, Moldova failed to collect a single medal. The best result came from Serghei Marghiev, who finished fourth placed in the hammer throwing contest. Historically, Moldova won three gold, four silver and 15 bronze medals. Natalia Cerchez, Ion Luchianov and Zalina Marghieva became world champions during previous editions.
