The fire on the attic-like apartment story on Independentei St in Chisinau was caused by a short circuit. Deputy head of the Chisinau Emergencies Division Liviu Marzencu said the short circuit was caused by an electric wire that went across the ceiling because the system was overloaded. The wire supplied electricity to 12 apartments, IPN reports.
Liviu Marzencu also said that a part of the blame is borne by the dwellers of the attic-like apartments, who performed construction works in an unauthorized way and used flammable material near the wires going through the ceiling. The final results of the investigation will be presented on May 12.
In the same connection, head of Botanica district Vladimir Guritsenko said that officials of the Information Resources Center “Registru” promised they will help the persons whose identification papers burned in the shortest period of time possible. Only three families of the 28 were accommodated at the Chisinau Boarding School No. 2. The others live at their relatives and friends.
The authorities do not yet have a solution for the owners of the attic-like apartments that burned. The roof will be conserved so as to protect the dwellers from the lower stories from floods when it rains.
