As many as 150,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines donated by the People’s Republic of China and 100,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine purchased by the Republic of Moldova were delivered to Chisinau in the morning of April 27. A lot of medical equipment donated by the Chinese side was also shipped to Moldova, IPN reports.
Attending the event to welcome the lot, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi thanked the administration and the people of China for the receptivity and promptness with which they reacted to her request. She noted that Moldova cannot produce COVID-19 vaccines and the donated vaccines and the purchased ones will this way enable to contain the pandemic as swiftly as possible.
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Moldova Zhang Yinghong expressed his confidence that the vaccines and complementary materials that were delivered from China to Chisinau today will contribute to achieving the objectives in the fight against the pandemic. He said that China and Moldova enjoy traditional friendly relations and the two countries supported each other during the pandemic. China donated lots of consumables to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Today’s event confirms the close friendly relations between the two states and nations.
The vaccines were shipped following a request made by the Speaker to the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China Li Zhanshu on March 4.
“It is encouraging that our county in the period receives lots of vaccines as this enables us to offer more vaccination options to the citizens. We are grateful to China for this significant donation. I ask you to continue to protect yourselves, to wear masks, to avoid large groups and closed places. I’m optimistic that we will soon be able to overcome the pandemic now that more people will get vaccines and we will soon definitely see our dear ones,” was President Maia Sandu’s massage transmitted on the occasion of the delivery of vaccines.
