250 cantilever-like traffic signs to be put up on national roads

About 250 cantilever-like traffic signs will be set up on the national and local roads by the end of this year. The State Road Administration chose larger road signs because they cannot be stolen.

Contacted by IPN, head of the Road Safety Service Petru Bologan said that a tender contest has been already held. A cantilever-like sign costs about 42,000 lei. The signs are put at a height of 5 meters from the roadway. The company that won the contest is installing traffic signs on 42 national and local roads, in places where there were no signs earlier.

“We received a lot of letters informing about thefts of road signs. The signs we put up now are more expensive, but also safer. The film that covers them is used in the European Union too,” stated Petru Bologan.

He also said that 8,400 small traffic signs have been placed on the national roads so far this year, instead of the stolen and destroyed ones. Since 2009 until now, there were set up 731 cantilever-like road signs, except the 250 that are put up now.
