As many as 240 public transport units, such as buses and trolleybuses, will be delivered to Chisinau by the end of this year, in accordance with the contract, mayor Ion Ceban was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference.
“There are over 600,000 commuters daily in the municipality of Chisinau. Even if it is unpopular, priority will be given to the public transport and I’m ready to assume the unpopular decisions. [...] We will continue with those corridors, even if they are not liked by some,” said Ion Ceban, referring to the lanes dedicated to public transport.
The new buses and trolleybuses will be put on routes in the city and in the suburban settlements.
At the start of September, mayor Ion Ceban announced the municipality’s intention to set up dedicated bus and trolleybus lanes that will ensure connection between districts of Chisinau. Experts were entrusted with the task of designing three priority routes.
