240 buses and trolleybuses will be put on routes in Chisinau by this yearend, mayor

As many as 240 buses and trolleybuses will be placed on routes in the capital city by the end of this year, mayor general Ion Ceban has said, noting that the municipality already managed to renew the public transport companies with 83 units of transport, IPN reports.

In the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, the mayor said that 60 bought trolleybuses already run on routes in the capital city. Two more articulated trolleybuses will start to run when the works on Creangă St in Chisinau are completed. There were also purchased 58 used buses and 28 of them were delivered. Sixteen of these buses were placed on routes, while the rest are being prepared for being used.

Of the 100 new buses that were acquired, ten were put on routes, while five are being tested and will be made available soon.

“I repeat that 240 units of public transport will be put on routes by the end of the year, this year alone. This is more than during the 30 years taken together,” stated Ion Ceban.

He noted he asked the division in charge to take into account all the routes that need to be supplemented with units of transport owing to the great demand. New routes will be instituted where there is no public transport at present.
