24 persons have been nominated for the 2008 Scholar of the Year Award, but only four of them will eventually get it along with money prizes ranging from 30,000 lei to 50,000 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports. The final decision will be made following a secret vote by the Superior Council for Sciences and Technology Development, at the recommendation of the Expert Commission of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences. Two prizes worth 50,000 lei are assigned to the category “Scholar of the Year in Exact Sciences”, with 11 nominees, and the category “Scholar of the Year in Liberal Arts”, with 3 nominees. The other two categories with prizes of 30,000 lei are “Young Scholar in Exact Sciences” (4 nominees) and “Young Scholar in Liberal Arts” (5 nominees). According to a communique from the Academy, the nominations are now being evaluated by experts. The Scholar of the Year is held for the fifth consecutive year by the Academy of Sciences with the support of the Savings Bank to encourage research activities.
