24 March declared national mourning day in solidarity with Brussels

March 24 was declared a national morning day in Moldova to show solidarity with Belgium and compassion for the victims of the Brussels terrorist attacks. In a working meeting convened following the tragic events in Belgium, President Nicolae Timoft instructed to strengthen the state’s capacities in the areas of security and defense, IPN reports.

According to the presidential press service, Nicolae Timofti underlined the necessity of hastening the adoption by Parliament of acts that will contribute to increasing the security level in Moldova. He reminded about the package of laws on the Security and Intelligence Service and the Law on Terrorism Prevention and Fighting.

“Terrorism is an increasingly felt threat and the actions to combat this scourge are within the responsibility of all the national and foreign players. At internal level, I ask the administration of Parliament and Government and the other states institutions to implement all the decisions adopted in the meetings of the Supreme Security Council and the ad hoc meetings, which stipulate actions to strengthen the state’s defense and security capacities,” said the President.

The meeting involved Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, head of the Parliament’s commission on security, defense and public order Veaceslav Untila, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan, Minister of Defense Anatolie Salaru, Security and Intelligence Service vice director Alexandru Balan, secretary general of the President’s staff Ion Paduraru, and presidential adviser on national security and defense Alexei Barbaneagra.
