23 mayors to receive Emeritus Mayor award
23 mayors will receive the Emeritus Mayor award, while 36 others will receive the medal “For Merits in Local Public Administration”. The event will be organized by the Congress of Local Authorities in Moldova (CALM) on December 28, at the Labor Institute, Info-Prim Neo learned from CALM’s executive director Viorel Furdui.
The event is organized for the first time in Moldova. It is meant to create a tradition of awarding workers of the local public administration (LPA) who dedicated a big part of their lives to their jobs and obtained remarkable results in implementing government programs and contributed to the social and economic development of their communities. Thus, they will receive the recognition and valuation they deserve, says Viorel Furdui.
The mayors were selected by CALM’s Administration Council before the local elections. The Emeritus Mayor award will be offered to mayors who have over 4 mandates. The medal “For Merits in Local Public Administration” will be awarded to mayors who have at least 10 years in office and achieved fruitful results during their activity.
At the ceremony, CALM will present an initiative to decree February 1 as the Day of the Local Public Administration Worker and of Local Autonomy.
The event will reunite mayors, heads of districts, local elected officials. Interim President Marian Lupu and Prime Minister Vlad Filat have been invited as well.
There are over 900 mayors in Moldova.
