20th peacekeeping contingent to Kosovo includes women

The National Army detached the 20th peacekeeping contingent to the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. For six months, the 41 soldiers will carry out missions to secure and guard military facilities and to patrol the area of responsibility. For the first time, four servicewomen will form part of the peacekeeping mission, IPN reports.

At the official secondment ceremony, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatyi said that 2024 marks 10 years since Moldova has participated with soldiers in the Kosovo Force. “This figure points to the professionalism of the National Army’s servicepeople, the responsibility and dedication of the 20 contingents that the Republic of Moldova has detached to the KFOR mission in an effort to maintain international peace and stability,” noted the minister.

Attending the event, the President’s adviser on defense and national security Stanislav Secrieru, secretary of the Supreme Security Council, stressed the essential contribution made by the peacekeeping contingent to the achievement of the national security objectives. “Being part of this mission, you contribute to promoting, strengthening the positive image of the Republic of Moldova within the international community,” said the official.

The Moldovan soldiers will be part of the Regional Command-West and will be deployed to Camp Villaggio Italia military base in Pech, Kosovo.
