Moldovan citizens are urged to discover the history, diversity and significance of the cultural heritage of Moldova, by engaging in the activities planned for the European Heritage Days, 2020 edition. On this occasion, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) launched the "Archeology of heritage" campaign, aimed at rising awareness of the need to preserve cultural heritage.
In collaboration with the cultural-natural reservation "Orheiul vechi", several museums, the National Archaeological Agency and the National Center for Promotion and Conservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage, awareness campaigns will be organized in nine settlements with heritage sites of national importance. In addition to the call to support sanitation campaigns around those objectives, training sessions will be organized for the general public with the participation of a limited number of people, in compliance with all anti-COVID-19 measures.
The campaign will start at the “Orheiul Vechi” Cultural-Natural Reserve, with the involvement of the Green Caritas Association. The association volunteers and the locals will collect waste from the Reservation territory, while being accompanied by State Pedagogical University "Ion Creanga" students from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, which, during the European Heritage Days, will recycle the collected waste into art objects. The campaign will continue in Văleni, Slobozia Mare, Crihana Veche, Cheile Butești, Cobani, Climăuții de Jos, Vadul lui Rașcov and Mateuți.
Minister of Education Igor Șarov said during a press conference that it has become a tradition for Moldova to mark the European Heritage Days in September, along with 50 other signatory countries of the European Cultural Convention. "The diversity of cultural heritage has the potential to provide creative solutions to contemporary problems, giving us new ideas to create a better tomorrow. Thus, in order to bring the cultural heritage closer to children, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research has included a module dedicated to education through culture in school courses", said the official.
The European Heritage Days are a Council of Europe initiative, which first started in France in 1985. Since 1999, the European Union has been involved in the celebration, as the permanent slogan changed to: "Europe, a common heritage".
