The Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections – 2009 Coalition – is urging the Ministry of Interiors (MAI) to ensure a favorable climate for the holding of free and fair parliamentary elections, Info-Prim Neo reports. The 2009 Coalition on Thursday, March 5, issued an “Appeal to Responsibility and Normality!”, calling upon the Ministry to treat with responsibility the duties vested by law in it, to show respect for the principles which are at the basis of its functioning, and to ensure a climate of normality so that the Moldovan citizens can exercise their right to vote in a free and fair manner, without any pressure which could influence their participation in elections or their electoral choice. In a press release issued by the Coalition, it is said that the appeal comes in response to the incidents registered recently in Moldova (the search at Albasat TV channel, the suppositions on the disappearance of Vorniceni's mayor), and in connection with the risk that, in the event of an escalation of such incidents, the electoral climate could become uncertain and difficult for the voters in Moldova. The 2009 Coalition is a voluntary union of nongovernmental organizations that aims to contribute towards ensuring free, transparent, fair and democratic legislative elections. It continues the activities carried out by Coalition 2005 and Coalition 2007. At present, the Coalition includes 66 NGOs.
