President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin issued a decree on December 26 declaring 2008 the national Year of Youth. According to a communique from the presidential press service, quoted by Info-Prim Neo, until January 25, 2008 the Government will set up a national commission for organising activities dedicated to the Year of Youth. It will consist of representatives of the central and local public administrations, nongovernmental youth organisations and of international organisations working in Moldova. The national commission will work out the programme of activities dedicated to the Year of Youth in concert with the central and local public authorities and nongovernmental youth organisations within a month. Also, the Government will identify the necessary financial resources and will take measures to carry out the programme of activities dedicated to the Year of Youth. It will make sure that the stipulations of the Constitution of Moldova, the Law on Youth, the strategy for youth and other normative documents on youth, especially those that refer to the involvement of youth in decision making, observation of the rights to education, to spiritual and physical development, to health protection, to professional training, to employment and material and financial support in acquiring housing are implemented. The Government will coordinate central and local public authorities’ activities intended to guarantee young people’s rights. It will carry out the activities dedicated to the Year of Youth together with the central and local public administrations in cooperation with the national commission, public associations and representative offices of the international organisations in Moldova. The Government also approved a decision under which 2008 was declared the national Year of Cantemir dynasty.
