20,000 lei needed for Gura Bicului bridge repairs
The bridge that links Gura Bicului village, Anenii Noi, to Bicioc village from the Transnistrian region needs about 20,000 lei for repairs, estimates Mayor of Gura Bicului Ion Lapicus. The Mayor told Info-Prim Neo that people still circulate on the bridge, except holidays or when major festivities take place. During those days, Tiraspol authorities instruct people to cross through “customs” checkpoints and fill in the “border” crossing forms.
We have a verbal agreement with the other side for crossing the bridge. We can cross it by foot, by bicycle, by motorbike, but not by car. There are some barriers, some mortar plates that restrict car access”, said the Mayor. According to Ion Lapicus, only the Transnistrian part of the bridge is damaged.
Ion Lapicus added that he recently had a meeting with Vlad Filat, in which they addressed the revival of completely free circulation on the bridge. However, no exact measures were established.
Vlad Filat and the leader from Tiraspol Evgueni Shevchuk, talked on this subject during a conference in Germany, which took place in mid-June. Back then, the Premier said that reopening the bridge will facilitate circulation, that bridge being part of an international route.
The bridge near Gura Bicului was part of an international route until 1992, when it was bombarded by Cossack troops, in order to stop the crossing of troops from the right bank of the Nistru. In 2002 the bridge was rebuilt, yet once in a while crossing interdictions are applied.
