Twenty women started the free in vitro fertilization treatment based on the health policy. One of the patients is already pregnant, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Health.
Overall, 67 medically insured couples applied for in vitro fertilization financed with mandatory health insurance funds during April – June 2017. Two women were ejected for health reason, while 30 were accepted for free treatment. For 30 procedures, the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) allocated over 950,000 lei.
The other applications will be examined in the nearest future. The Ministry of Health requested the CNAM to finance 100 in vitro fertilization procedures a year. Earlier, the CNAM signed contracts for the provision of vitro fertilization services with three private medical institutions.
The in vitro fertilization procedure financed with mandatory health insurance funds can be asked only by couples with health policies. The CNAM pays almost 32,000 lei for a procedure. This sum does not include the costs for the medicines administered to the female patients. In Moldova, there are almost 140,000 infertile couples of a reproductive age. Of these, 3,000 need in vitro fertilization treatment.
