Some 20% of the juridical staff in Moldova has been replaced during the last two years. Noticeable changes will also take place when the package of anticorruption laws is adopted and more mechanisms for making judges more responsible appear, said Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim, quoted by IPN.
In a conference centering on the European integration of Moldova, the official said that the employees of the juridical system will leave voluntarily when they are subject to integrity tests. The package of anticorruption laws also includes other measures that will help clear the system of corrupt judges.
According to the minister, things in the justice system started to change owing to the pressure exerted by the European Union. There appeared the first cases of arrest of corrupt judges. The role of the political class is decisive in reforming justice. Parliament must designate three law professors as members of the Supreme Council of Magistrates and the lawmakers should not make a mistake in their choice.
“I’m obliged to look at the future with confidence, even if I have no decisive influence on the appointment of judges. But I will be the first who will suffer the consequences if the expected results are not achieved, together with the Government,” said Oleg Efrim.
In conclusion, the minister said that the act of corruption involves not only functionaries who take bribe, but also people who offer it. The future generations must be educated not to follow such a path since they are in school.
