2 smugglers risk paying large fines

A man and a woman risk to pay large fines for illegal importing goods from the Transnistrian region, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Ministry of Interior (MAI). The man, aged 18, is suspected of smuggling 7,000 cigarette packs. The man could not present documents that would certify the origin of the goods. According to the police, the smuggled goods were transported from the Transnistria region, avoiding the customs checkpoints, in order to be sold for a higher price in Chisinau. The cigarettes, valued at 41,000 lei, were confiscated . The suspected woman sells merchandise at the Soldanesti market. She could not present documents of origin of 100 coats and jackets. While being interrogated, the woman confessed that the merchandise, with a total cost of 92,000 lei, was brought from Ukraine and introduced to Moldova via the Rezina-Rabnita customs check point. The goods were confiscated and the case was transmitted for examination to the the Balti Customs Bureau. According to MAI statistics, since the beginning of the year, 9 cases of smuggling have been registered.
