2 Plus, which has recently won the licence for the use of the state-owned relay no.2, decided to disrupt retransmission of the Romanian channel TVR1 in Moldova. The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) approved today a modified version of 2 Plus’s broadcast schedule, as requested by the broadcaster. 2 Plus director Razvan Paveliu stated that the request came after the channel failed to conclude an agreement allowing the retransmission with the Romanian Television Corporation (SRTV). He said the numerous letters sent to the Corporation as well as to the Romanian Government in an attempt to arrange a business meeting were left without any answer. Razvan Paveliu announced that 2 Plus would rebroadcast the Romanian channel Antena International instead. Most BCC members voiced their regret that the channel was unable to get the respective agreement. At the same time, they stated that Antena International was also a high-standard television channel, so the consumers of information would not be disadvantaged. The updated schedule was backed with the vote of five out of six members attending. Vlad Turcanu, Ludmila Vasilache and Ruslan Plesca left the meeting, arguing that they hadn’t been informed of the issue at an internal meeting, which was a breach of the standard procedure. Razvan Paveliu has told reporters that the updated schedule will be soon in effect. The scandal around TVR1 rebroadcasting originated on July 31 when the BCC decided to put the frequencies used to retransmit TVR1 for auction, on the grounds that SRTV had failed to honour its contractual obligations. Heated discussions among the Councils’ members as well as protest reactions on the part of the civil society followed afterwards. On September 27, the BCC gave the license for the state-owned network no.2 to the newly set up television channel 2 Plus, even if SRTV announced that all the financial problems had been solved.
