The mill in Gaidar village (Gagauz Autonomy), a cultural landmark built in the 19th century, has been restored with the support of the European Union. The tourist attraction retains the distinctive architectural features of the century it was built in, according to a press release from the EU Delegation in Moldova.

Despite its old age, the mill is still operational and is open to visitors. The first tourists to rediscover the attraction were the visitors to the Ninth Festival of Carpets held in Gaidar.

There are four mills of this kind in Moldova. The Gaidar mill’s uniqueness is in that it can be operated single-handedly.

The rehabilitation was part of an extensive restoration and conservation program for ten cultural and historical landmarks on both sides of the Nistru River.
