The Civic Consolidation Movement founded by veterans of the 1992 war is deeply concerned about the situation in the country and intends to join the protests mounted by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”. Thus, on June 7 they will go to the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau to protest, starting at 12 noon.
Founded on May 22, the Civic Consolidation Movement has so far attracted over 1,500 members, its chairman Ion Grigoreac stated in a news conference at IPN.
The movement’s members formulated a statement that is addressed to the senior administration. The veterans demand that the National Bank governor and decision makers of the National Anticorruption Center, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Justice should resign for irresponsibility and lack of perseverance in combating offenses that undermine the political, social and economic systems. They also demand holding accountable all those who stole billings of lei from the banking system.
“The interminable economic crisis, extreme poverty and the Government of a poor quality installed as a result of an unprecedented and shameful bargain by the minority coalition of the PLDM and PDM, in concert with the PCRM, the stealing of billions of lei form public funds, the unrealistic reforms in the legal system, the chaotic and unwise implementation of presupposed optimization measures disappointed the people and the foreign development partners,” said member of the movement, general in reserve Gheorghe Slutu, reading from the statement.
According to the veterans, the ‘green-red’ government seriously discredited the European integration idea and is trying to annul the Association Agreement with the EU by boycotting the reformation process. The leaders of some political parties that promote Russia’s interests and demand joining the Customs Union pose an imminent threat as they can destabilize the situation.
To avoid early parliamentary elections, the members of the movement request that the pro-European parliamentary groups should form a new, really European coalition. They called on the Government to immediately draw up a plan of action for revitalizing the economy and asked the head of state to take measures to remedy the situation in economy and the banking sector and to strengthen the rule of law. “Before the local elections, we call on you to leave aside indifference and political ambitions and to penalize all the profiteers and aspirants for power so that none of them seizes power at local level and then at central level,” reads the statement.
The movement’s members also said that the messages promoted by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” meet the people’s aspirations for a better life within the European community. Therefore, the war veterans decided to support the platform in its activities and will take part in the protest scheduled for June 7.
